Overview
Your Rankd account and what you post are stored on Rankd’s servers, so they are the same on your iPhone and on the web. Earlier versions of the app also kept a copy in your iCloud. We never sell your personal data. The iPhone app shows ads through Google AdMob to keep Rankd free — see Advertising below.
What We Collect
Account: your email address and password if you sign up with email — the password is stored only as a salted one-way hash that nobody can read back — or an anonymous identifier from Apple if you use Sign in with Apple. Profile: the username, display name, bio, photo, and favorites you choose to share. Content: ratings, reviews, rankings, comments, and reactions you create. Social: who you follow and block.
We use your email address only to confirm your account, reset your password, and tell you about changes to your account’s security. We do not send marketing email, and we do not show your email address to anyone.
Public Profile
Your public profile (username, display name, bio, level) and the content you post publicly can be seen by other people on Rankd. Deleting your account removes it.
Where It Is Stored
Rankd’s servers and account emails are provided by Cloudflare. Catalog searches and playback use Apple Music; Rankd does not receive your Apple account credentials.
Rankd+ Subscriptions
Rankd+ is bought through Apple. Apple handles payment; Rankd never sees your card or Apple account details. To give you access, Rankd keeps the subscription Apple confirms to it — which plan, when it started and ends, whether it renews — linked to your Rankd account by an anonymous token, so it can never attach to someone else’s account. If Rankd+ ends, nothing you made with it is deleted.
Rankd+ Features
Vinyl Collection: the price you paid, notes, condition and purchase dates are visible only to you; others may see the records on your shelf if you choose to show it. Finding a pressing sends what you search for (an artist and album, or a barcode) from your iPhone to Discogs, which provides that data. Taste Comparisons only ever use ratings the other person can already see. Saved and favourite GIFs, custom tags, ranking modes and reaction choices are kept with your account and are private to you.
GIFs and Stickers
GIF and sticker search is provided by KLIPY. What you search for is sent to KLIPY to find results; Rankd sends no information that identifies you.
On the Web
Rankd on the web uses only essential cookies: one that keeps you signed in, and short-lived ones while you confirm a code. There are no advertising or analytics cookies, and the web shows no ads.
Your Rights
Export your data as JSON from Settings in the app. Delete your account from Settings in the app, or from Account on the web, to permanently remove your data. Contact support for any privacy question.
Advertising (iPhone app)
The app shows an occasional sponsored card in your Home feed through Google AdMob so it can stay free. Ads are never shown on Apple Music content or around playback. Where the law requires it (for example the UK and EEA), Google asks for your consent first, and you can change it any time in Settings → Ad Privacy Choices. With your permission (the App Tracking Transparency prompt), AdMob may use your device’s advertising identifier to show more relevant ads; otherwise ads are not personalised. To report an ad, touch and hold it. Rankd counts how many ads are requested and shown each day, with nothing that identifies you. See Google’s policies at policies.google.com/technologies/ads. We use no other analytics or tracking SDKs.
Children
Rankd is not directed to children under 13, and you must be at least 13 (or the minimum age in your country) to create an account.
Security and Retention
We keep your data only as long as your account exists; deleting your account removes it. Passwords are stored only as salted one-way hashes, and Sign in with Apple never shares your Apple password with us. No method of transmission is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
